Ban on Child Marriage in Yemen

Yemen is one of the Few Countries that still does not have a ban on child Marriage. The Yemen Humans Rights Minister, Hooria Mashhour, openly protested this week after another case in which an 8 Year-old girl was married off to a 40 Year-old man and died from what was reported as “internal bleeding due to wounds for the wedding night”.

It is rumored according to the Minister that the little girl suffered from a ruptured uterus and other internal organs. Though, these rumors have no solid evidence to officially conclude veracity. However, Hooria Mashhour affirmed that “This isn’t the first time a child marriage has happened in Yemen, so we should not focus only on this case.”

The Minister continued to state that many families are approached by wealthy men and are forced to sell their children. She assures that the Yemen government is working on banning such practices to avoid more tragedies in the future.
