The Europac Group (Papers Cartones y Europa , SA) acquired in the Moroccan city of Tangier a land for the construction of a new integrated corrugated cardboard plant. The new plant is to be operational in the first half of 2015.
The first phase of this project began in the first quarter of 2013, with the opening of a center dedicated to the assembly of heavy-duty enclosures for the automotive sector. At this early stage of the project converting lines were also installed for the processing of card board boxes.
The recently acquired land where the new integrated corrugated cardboard factory will be built, has an area of 30,000 square meters and is located in Tanger Automotive City (TAC), a new industrial area of 300 hectares dedicated especially to promote the automobile industry and components.
The new facility will have a corrugating to manufacture surfboard design from paper rolls and a section processing board in cardboard boxes with three additional lines of converting. Upon completion of the project, both the center mount heavy duty boxes and the two converting lines, which are currently already in operation, will be transferred to the new plant.
The location of the plant, within the grounds of the TAC, is a competitive advantage both from a commercial and logistical standpoint. The TAC is strategically situated between the cities of Tangier and Tetouan, just 20 kilometers from the Tangier Free Zone and Tangier Med Port, which is one of the reference commercial ports of the Mediterranean where expansion works taking place and will be completed by 2015.
In total, the estimated investment in the project is EUR 30 million to be invested in different stages, including a third and final phase that involves the installation of two new converting lines to a total of seven in the new plant. It is estimated that the project will enable the creation of a significant number of direct jobs.
